On 10th January 2009, His Beatitude TheodorosII, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa blessed the Vasilopitta of the historic Society of Greek Academics “Ptolemaios I” of Alexandria.
The following day, 11th January 2009, he officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Church of St Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria after which he blessed the Vasilopitta of the Lyceum of Greek women of the Great City.
On 13th January His Beatitude received at the Patriarchal See His Grace Meletios Bishop Theophilos of Kolwezi ( Congo ), from he was informed about the missionary and pastoral work being done in this jurisdiction of the ancient Patriarchate.
It is worth noting that this Diocese was established by Patriarchal and Synodal Decree on 1st November 2006. In its jurisdiction is the great area of Kananga . His Grace Meletios who was elected on 1st November 2006 as the first Bishop of the newly formed Diocese, has served as a missionary for the people of Kolwezi since 1989.
His Beatitude also discussed with His Grace the programme for his official visit to Kolwezi which is due to take place in September, together with a visit to Zambia , as well as a stay in Kananga in Central Africa .
