On 23rd October 2009, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa received at the Patriarchal See a large number of those who fought at the Battle of El Alamein, led by Major General Stylianos Dogaris, Director of Reservist Fighters Victims and Invalids who are visiting Egypt within the framework of the anniversary functions of the battle.
Addressing His Beatitude, Major General Dogaris praised the missionary activities of the Alexandrian Church and the Venerable Primate, to whom he gave the emblem of the Group.
In his reply, His Beatitude spoke of the difficult task of serving our African brothers and sisters and expressed his gratitude to the Greek armed forces who always support this work in every possible way. He also expressed his thanks to Mr Hosni Mubarak, the President of Egypt, for his protection and facilitation of the Ancient Patriarchate. He ended by decorating the Major General.
The group is accompanied by Protopresbyter George Apostolakides, Director of the Religious Forces and Captain P. Pastouseas the Military Attaché of the Greek Embassy in Egypt.
