On Friday, 31st March 2023, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa officiated during the Service of the Akathist Hymn at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria, supported by His Eminence Pantelimon, Metropolitan of Naucratis and Chief Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod.
Preaching the divine homily, His Beatitude referred to the theological content of the awe-inspiring, in terms of the power of the word and the meanings of the Holy Service, while underlining the connection between the glorious past of the Alexandrian Church in the City of Alexander the Great, with its hopeful future throughout the African continent and mentioned at length his recently concluded missionary journey to the populous Holy Metropolis of Katanga, in the southern Congo.
Participating in the prayer gathering were the Honourable Mr. Athanasios Kotsionis Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, the Honourable Mr. Andreas Vafiades, Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria, the Honourable Mrs Lilka-Irene Thlivitis, Chairlady of the Hellenic Naval Club and the ”Ptolemy I” Society of Hellenic Scientists of Alexandria and many faithful.
This was followed by refreshments for all in the adjacent Guest Hall of the Cathedral under the care of its Hierarchical Superior, His EMinence Metropolitan Panteleimon.
