THE PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC

His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria had a meeting on Wednesday 22 July 2020 with the President of the Reoublic, Mrs. Aikaterini Sakellaropoulou.

The Alexandrian Patriarch was warmly welcomed by President Mrs. Sakellaropoulou, who welcomed him to the Presidential Palace.

During the meeting, the Primate of the Alexandrian Church briefed the President of the Republic on the conditions in Africa.

The Patriarch of Alexandria and the President also discussed their mutual descent from Xanthe (the Patriarch on his mother’s side).

On her behalf Mrs Sakellaropoulou showed particular sensitivity to the work of the Patriarchate and the care for young children and the youth.

The President of the Republic also showed special interest in the Hellenism of Egypt and discussed the developments concerning Libya and Egypt.

Finally, Ms. Sakellaropoulou thanked the Patriarch of Alexandria for the meeting and pledged, at the first opportunity, after the end of the pandemic, to visit historic Alexandria.
