THE PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA VISITS THE PRESIDENT OF THE CYPRUS REPUBLIC
With all formality, on September 17, 2020 the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikolaos Anastasiadis, welcomed to the Presidential Palace, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, in the context of His Beatitude’s seven-day visit to Cyprus.
Immediately after the meeting with the President, the Patriarch in his statements to the journalists, thanked the Republic of Cyprus and referred extensively to the work carried out by the ancient Patriarchate throughout the African continent.
He expressed particular satisfaction for his meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, but also for the discussions he had with Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Cyprus.
The Primate of Alexandria also expressed his particular satisfaction for the cooperation and friendship between Cyprus, Greece and Egypt.
Referring to the work of the Patriarchate, he said that two thousand new schools and three and a half thousand medical centers will be opened and operated in Africa.
His Beatitude expressed his satisfaction with the decision taken by the Government, for the opening of the Cypriot Embassy in Ethiopia and the appointment of an Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya.
His Beatitude did not fail to thank the Leventis Foundation, which restores and preserves 600 manuscripts of inestimable value, of the Patriarchal Library in Alexandria.
Finally, the Patriarch thanked the journalists and sent through them His blessing and wishes to the pious Cypriot people.
