On 13 January 2015, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa had an official meeting in Cairo with His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Ibrahim Mahlab.
During the meeting which took place in a cordial atmosphere because of their lengthy acquaintance and collaboration, from the time when Mr. Ibrahim Mahlab was Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, His Beatitude briefed him on the final phase of the renovation works of the Rotunda of St. George, and gave him the official invitation to the Inauguration of the above-named Church.
His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Mahlab, accepted the invitation, and praised the multifaceted work of His Beatitude, and assured him that the forthcoming functions will be placed under the aegis of the President of the Country. He also emphasized that the historic monument in question is a symbol of friendship between the nations of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus as well as a symbol of co-existence and mutual respect between Christians and Muslims.
The Prime Minister then presented the relative Ministers who are responsible for the building of the Hospital – Poor House which will be built within the grounds of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St George Old Cairo, with costs to be borne by the Khoury family, who own the C.C.C. company. The hospital in question will have seven clinics for respective specialities, mainly or the treatment of children with cancer.
In conclusion His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Mahlab asked for the prayers of His Beatitude and the blessing of St George for the prosperity and progress of the people of Egypt.
It is to be noted that the official Inauguration of the historic Rotunda of St George, as well as that of the Museum within the Catacombs, will be realized, God willing, on 23 and 24 April 2015.
