On 11th October, fourth day of the Pastoral visit by the Alexandrian Primate to the Holy Metropolis of Mwanza, His Beatitude, accompanied by local Metropolitan Ieronymos and the Greek Parliamentarian Mr. Dimitrios Kyriazides, Chairman of the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Police Officers, flew to the city of Bukoba which was the See of the local Diocese, before it was elevated to a Metropolis, when the See was transferred to Mwanza. This is His Beatitude’s third visit to Bukoba, where the faithful gave him a warm welcome with traditional dances and songs. In his address, His Beatitude comforted the faithful people of God, who had recently suffered an earthquake measuring 5,8 on the Richter Scale, inspiring them to have hope in God and to be dedicated with love to the Orthodox Church. Among the faithful, with great emotion, His Beatitude greeted four graduates of the “St Athanasios” Patriarch Academy of Alexandria, who assist the local Metropolitan Ieronymos with catechism and who will soon be ordained.
As part of his visit, the Alexandrian Primate visited the governor of the district, Mr. SALUM M. KIJUU, to whom he actively expressed his support and sympathy after the recent earthquake which left 17 dead, hundreds injured and piles of debris, by giving the Metropolitan material support with food and bedding.
