THE PATRIARCH AGAIN IN HIS BELOVED BEIRA IN MOZAMBIQUE

ON 18th February 2020, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Grace Fotios, Bishop of Malawi, left Blantyre on his way to Beira, Mozambique, where the historic Church of the Holy Trinity is situated, built by Greeks in 1886 and which has undergone great damage due to the cyclone which hit the area last March.

The Church of the Holy Trinity and the adjacent Greek school, were renovated, in the period 2002-2003, during the pastoral care of His Beatitude the Patriarch as the then Metropolitan of Zimbabwe, funded by the Hellenic Parliament, and all the damage from the recent cyclone were repaired completely through the contribution of the Lady of the Churches of the Patriarchate, Mrs. Marina Tsihlakis.

The Governor of the City was present at the Doxology which was sung at the Church for the arrival of the Patriarch.

Visibly moved, His Beatitude spoke of his experiences seventeen years ago in Beira, as Metropolitan of Zimbabwe, his struggles for the reoperation of the historic Church in the once thriving Hellenic Community and his anxiety regarding the promotion of the Orthodox faith in Mozambique.

After the end of his pilgrimage, he paid a visit to an orphanage in the city, where the Patriarch showed his love to the orphaned children, giving them joy. Immediately after ending his one-day trip to Mozambique, His Beatitude and his entourage left by air for Lilongwe, capital of the Republic of Malawi.

That same evening the Alexandrian Primate visited His Excellency the Ambassador of Egypt to Malawi at the Ambassadorial Residence.
