On Tuesday 14th Septemeber 2012 His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, in an atmosphere of devotion and with the participation of many Christian faithful, officiated at the Divine Liturgy as well as the ceremony of the Elevation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross at the Holy Patriarchal Church of St Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria.
Preaching the divine homily His Beatitude spoke of the importance of the feast,prayed for a solution to the problems in Greece and in Cyprus, stability and progress in Egypt and the prevalence of peace in the world.
He also commemorated his predecessor the late Patriarch Ierotheos II (1847 – 14th September 1858) who in 1847 laid the foundation and inaugurated in 1856 the beautiful Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria and whose vestments His Beatitude wore during the Eucharistic gathering.
