On 24th February 2008, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, conducted a Patriarchal Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St Andrew in Toulear, concelebrated by His Gace Ignatios, Bishop of Madagascar.
Present in the church, which was filled by the faithful African Orthodox Christians, were political and military officials of the wider area. The hymns were sung by large choirs of children in the local dialect.
An official lunch in honour of His Beatitude was then held, during which His Beatitude announced the building of a modern clinic and a technical school in Toulear, the costs of which are to be born by the Chairman of the Brotherhood of External Missions of Thessaloniki, Mr Vaios Prantzos, who was present at the lunch. The relevant equipment would provided by the Ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.
