The Ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, with the utmost sorrow, announces the passing to the Lord of the Hierarch of the Throne of Alexandria, His Eminence Proterios, Metropolitan of Diospolis, who passed away today, 20th October 2021.
His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, who is on pastoral visit to Bukoba in Tanzania, sang the Trisagion for the Repose of the soul of the late blessed Metropolitan Proterios, together with Hierarchs of the Throne.
The late Metropolitan Proterios of Diospolis of blessed memory, born Stylianos Pavlopoulos, was born in Naxos on 28th July 1946. He studied at the Theological Academy of Athens. He was ordained Deacon on 12th December 1972 and Priest on 13th December 1972 by the late Metropolitan Methodios of Aksum of blessed memory.
On 3rd march 2001 he was ordained Metropolitan of Irenopolis (Tanzania). On 27th October 2004 he was elected as Metropolitan of Ptolemais and on 26th November 2014 he was appointed Titular Metropolitan of Diospolis.
