PASSING OF ELDER METROPOLITAN KALLINIKOS OF PILOUSION
Elder Metropolitan Kallinikos of Pilousion fell asleep in the Lord, today, 21st December 2013.The Hierarch of blessed memory, born Kyriakos Pippas, was born in Megara, Attikis, in 1936. He was graduate of the Holy Theological Academy of Halki. He was ordained Deacon and then Priest in 1964 by the late Metropolitan Chrysostomos Papaignatiou of Grevena and appointed Preacher of that Holy Metropolis. From1978 he served as Preacher in the Holy Metropolis of Peristeri for 18 consecutive years. He was then seconded to the Throne in 1997 and served as Patriarchal Vicar in the Vicariate in Cairo. On 23rd November 1999 he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate as Bishop of Mareotis and was ordained on 12th December of the same year by the late Patriarch Petros VII of Alexandria, becoming Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria. In February 2001, he was elected and placed as Metropolitan of the Holy Metropolis of Khartoum. On 1st November 2006 he was unanimously elected Metropolitan of Pilousion. He was enthroned by His Beatitude Theodoros II Patriarch of Alexandria on 22nd December 2006. On 9th October 2009, honouring the valuable ecclesiastical ministry of the late Hierarch of blessed memory, he proposed and by Synodal agreement awarded him the title of Elder Metropolitan.
