PASSING OF ARCHBISHOP KYRILLOS OF NAFKRATIS

On 18th November 2012 His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Nafkratis, retired hierarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, passed away.

The late Metropolitan Kyrillos (Economopoulos) of Nakratis, was born in Paphos in Cyprus in 1930. He graduated from the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens in 1965. He was ordained Deacon in 1949 and Priest in 1965. On 11th March 2001, he was consecrated as Metropolitan of Zimnbabwe by the late Patriarch Petros VII of Alexandria. In 2002 he resigned from his duties and on 14th March 2003 he was given the title of Metropolitan of Nafkratis. The late hierarch remained in retirement on the island of Cyprus where he was born.

On hearing of the passing of His Eminence Kyrillos, His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Pqatriarch of Alexandria and All Africa conducted a memorial service for the repose of his soul.
