HIS GRACE SPYRIDON FALLS ASLEEP
Today 31st October 2013, His Grace Spyridon, Bishop of Kanopos, a retired hierarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria fell asleep in the Lord. The late hierarch who was born Ioannis Miliotis, son on Efstathios and Alexandra, was born in Afra in Corfu in 1941. He held a degree from the Theological Faculty of Athens, was ordained Deacon on 25th December 1965 by Metropolitan Methodios of Corfu and Priest on 26th October 1975 by Metropolitan George of Kaisariani. In 1998 he became part of the clergy of the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria where he was originally abbot of the Holy Monastery of St George in Old Cairo and then of the Holy Monastery of St Savvas in Alexandria. On 1st November 2006 he was elected Bishop of Kanopos and ordained in the Patriarchal Church of St Savvas on 5th November by His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria. He retired for health reasons and was living in Athens since 2010.
The funeral and burial of the late Hierarch will take place tomorrow at around noon in the Holy Monastery of the Resurrection of Christ in Loutraki, which will be preceded by a hierarchal Divine Liturgy.
