On 22nd August 2012, His Excellency the President of Egypt Mr Mohamed Morsi invited the representatives of the Christian Communities in Egypt to a meeting with him.
The meeting took place within the framework of the President’s contacts with the Christian Churches, in order that everyone contributes, as he emphasized, to the unity and prosperity of Egypt, once again noting the principles of fairness and equality before the law, regardless of religious beliefs.
The ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and its Venerable Primate, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, was represented by His Grace Niphon, Bishop of Babylonia, Hegumen of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St George in Old Cairo. His Grace passed the gratitude of His Beatitude for the continuing cooperation and honour which the President affords the Church of Alexandria.
