HIS BEATITUDE VISITS THE CHARITY INSTITUTIONS OF THE HOLY DIOCESE OF SIERRA LEONE
On the afternoon of Thursday, 23 February 2012, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa visit the installations buildings of the Diocese of Sierra Leone and was amazed at the work of the Patriarchal Vicar the Very Reverend Archimandrite Themistokles Adamopoulos, particularly the Educational Institute which he had built adjacent to the Diocese and the Holy Church of Ss Constantine and Helen which is being built, courtesy of the Chairman of the Missionary Association of St Cosmas the Aetolan, Mr George Aslanides.
He then went on to the town of Waterloo, where the Missionary Centre of St Moses the Ethiopian is situated. It is a centre which has been built exclusively to support amputee victims of the civil war. The patriarch was amazed with this unique centre which makes not only the Alexandrian Church proud, but all of Orthodoxy. In the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord and of St Moses the Ethiopian which is under construction a Doxology was sung and His Beatitude addressed words of love to the victims of the war and to hundreds of children who are at the Orthodox School in the buildings. He then laid the foundation stone of the Holy Church, unveiled the memorial plaque and distributed stationery to all the children.
He then toured the development which includes a school, clinic, presbytery, hostel rooms for the children who are amputees and the workshop where agricultural tools are made, where all the adults who are invalids work and try to make ends meet. The patriarch departed visibly moved that God had deemed him worthy to visit this modern day “Vasiliada”, stressing that his visit left it mark on his heart and promised that he would share with all the world this experience which he lived through with these children.
