     On 23rd November 2008, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Church of St Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria, following which he received at the Patriarchal See the Chairman of the Office Bearers of the Throne, Professor Theodoros Panagopoulos.

     On the next day, 24th November, His Beatitude visited the Governor’s Office in Alexandria, where, during an official ceremony, The Chairman of the Greek Egypt Friendhsip Association and Archon Megas Logothetis of the Patriarchal Throne, Mr Spyridon Kamalakis, awarded His Excellency the Governor Mr Adel Abib, the Highest Medal of Alexander the Great on behalf of the Association.

     During his address His Beatitude stressed the excellent relations of friendship and peaceful coexistence of Christians and Muslims in the Land of the Nile and emphasized the traditional exceptional cooperation between Egypt and greece. He also mentioned the work done by the Patriarchate on the African continent and thanked through the Governor, the President of Egypt Mr Hosni Mubarak, for his love and support of the mulitfaceted work of the Patriarchate and ended by saying “May God bless Egypt, its President and both the Greek and Egyptian people”.

     In his reply, His Excellency Mr Abib expressed the joy that he feels in receiving this award and thanked His Beatitude and Mr Kamalakis for their visit to the Governor’s Office of the Great City.

     Present at the cermony were the Honourable Mr George Diakofotakis, Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community Mr Haralambos Katsimbris, high-ranking officials of the local government, state security and other officials.
