On 18th October 2021, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, met with His Excellency Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda, accompanied by Their Eminences Makarios Elder Metropolitan of Nairobi, Locum Tenens of the Holy Metropolis of Kampala, Innocent Metropolitan of Burundi and Rwanda, Their Graces Neophytos Bishop of Nieri and Mount Kenya, Sylvester Bishop of Gulu and Eastern Uganda, the Patriarchal Vicar of Goma the Very Reverend Archimandrite Chariton, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Elpidophoros Limnaios and other African clergy.
His Excellency the President welcomed His Beatitude, thanked him for the contribution of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa, both to Uganda and to the rest of Africa, especially during the difficult period of the coronavirus.
During his reply, the Primate of Alexandria thanked His Excellency for the warm welcome, but also for the hospitality of Abraham, informed him about the general missionary and pastoral activity of the Second Throne Patriarchate, as well as about the humanitarian work not only in Uganda, but across the African continent, thanking the President for his contribution to the local Church.
In addition, the Patriarch informed His Excellency about the distribution of 20,000 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 by a Russian philanthropist, a friend of the Patriarch and the Patriarchate of Alexandria, which will benefit 10,000 people. As His Beatitude mentioned, he is in consultation with the Ugandan embassy in Rome on how they will be sent to the Ugandan health authorities.
In addition, His Beatitude referred to the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, whom he thanked for the love and protection he provides to the Patriarch himself as well as to the Patriarchate.
Finally, after thanking His Excellency the President again for the hospitality, the Patriarch wished peace and prosperity to the people of Uganda.
Thus, the Primate of Alexandria, full of gladness and spiritual joy, completed his missionary tour of the land of Uganda and left for Bukoba, Tanzania, where he will continue his pastoral visits.
