On 19th February 2015, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Eminence George Metropolitan of Guinea Representative of His Beatitude in Athens, had an official meeting at the Maximou Mansion with His Excellency the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Alexis Tsipras.
The meeting took place in a particularly warm atmosphere regarding issues of common interest. Essentially, His Beatitude briefed the Prime Minister on the situation which the Christians in the Middle East face, as well as on the work being undertaken by the Patriarchate both in the land of the Nile, as well as the missionary echelons throughout the African continent, and passed on his impressions from his recent meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Egyptian capital, on 10th February

Patriarch Theodoros also invited the Prime Minister to attend the inauguration of the Church of St George on 24th April in Cairo, which he accepted.
The Prime Minister listened to His Beatitude with interest and assured him that he will be by his side, spoke of the critical hours that Greece is going through, emphasizing that “The great achievement is that we have a powerful unity of the people, a feeling of national pride and that we are claiming our right”.
