On 13th June 2011, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa welcomed to the Patriarchal Vicariate of Cairo His Eminence Ilarion, Metropolitan of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department of External Affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate, in the presence of His Grace Nikodimos Bishop of Nitria, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo and His Grace Niphon Bishop Babylonos Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of St George, as well as the Very Reverend Archimandrite Leonid Gorbacev, Exarch of the Russian Church in Cairo.
During the meeting, His Beatitude and His Eminence discussed issues regarding the bilateral relations between the two Patriarchates, as well as other inter-Orthodox issues generally.
Within the framework of the meeting His Eminence the Metropolitan of Volokolamsk venerated the Holy Patriarchal Church of St Nicholas as well as the area in which St Nektarios, Bishop of Pentapolis lived, during the period when he served as Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, and then attended an official lunch which was hosted in his honour by His Beatitude.
