HIS BEATITUDE IN DURBAN – SOUTH AFRICA
On 23rd May 2008, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa together with the Vicar General of the Holy Metropolis of Johannesburg and Pretoria, Rev Father Minas Constantinou and Archimandrite Marcos Theodosi, flew to Durban where he was met by His Eminence Metropolitan Sergius of Good Hope, His Grace Theodoros Bishop of Mozambique and the Honourable Consul General of Greece Mr Christos Zacharopoulos and others.
On the evening of the same day he visited the newly erected Holy Church of St Nicholas, which he will inaugurate on Sunday 25th May 2008.
An official dinner followed in honour of His Beatitude hosted by the Hellenic Community of Durban and attended by The Honourable Consul General Mr Zacharopoulos, the Members and Chairman of the Hellenic Community Mr Haralambos Liasidis, representatives of Hellenic Associations and community officials, to whom His Beatitude addressed fervent gratitude for the building of the beautiful Church of St Nicholas .
On 24th May 2008, His Beatitude attended a lunch hosted in his honour by Mr Savvas Stylianou, former Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Durban and one of the most important assistants in the building of the new church. That evening, His Beatitude officiated at the Great Vespers together with His Eminence Metropolitan Sergios and His Grace Bishop Theodoros.
