HIS BEATITUDE CONTINUES HIS PASTORAL VISIT TO MALAWI
His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa expressed his satisfaction on the missionary work which has been done in the recent past in Malawi, while visiting the site of a new church under construction and laying the foundation stone for another.
On Friday 14th October 2011, the Alexandrian Primate laid the foundation stone of the Holy Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos which is being built in Blantyre, the second largest city in Malawi. His beatitude gave His Eminence Ioakeim a cross to be placed on the Holy Altar when the church is completed.
His Beatitude then went on to plant trees in the grounds of the Church of the Holy Trinity which is under construction, also in Blantyre, following a warm welcome from by the local Orthodox faithful.
In his address he thanked all who contribute to the missionary effort and stressed his wish that each church when built should have adjacent to it school, as well as a clinic and a water well for the needs of the local population. He prayed that God would grant strength particularly to the local Hierarch His Eminence Ioakeim, and to Fr Ermolaos Iatrou, so that they can continue their work which is pleasing to God.
His Beatitude then went to the cemetery where he conducted the Memorial Service for the Greeks of Blantyre who have been laid to rest there.
