On 24th May 2010, His BEatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of St Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria prior to the end of which he conducted the service of Holy Orders for the African students of the “St Athanasios” Patriarchal Academy of Alexandria and passed on his paternal guidance and prayers for them.
The historic Patriarchal Academy was re-instituted by His Beatitude during the academic year 2–7-2008 after 470 years, in order to promote the indigenous African members of the missionary effort of the Patriarchal Throne. During the academic year just passed, the first students graduated and already new young Orthodox students from various African countries are successfully studying subjects such as agriculture, nursing, theology, information technology and Greek and Arabic langugae.
