His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, has been in Accra , the capital city of Ghana since the 25th June 2008, on an official pastoral and missionary visit. The jurisdiction of this Metropolis extends over ten countries in West Africa . This has just recently been further extended to include the Ivory Coast , Sierra Leone and Liberia .
His Beatitude was met at the Kotoma international Airport in Ghana by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexandros of Nigeria, His Grace Bishop Damaskinos of Ghana, together with the clergy of Ghana, His Excellency the Ambassador of Greece Mr Haris Dafaranos, the Charge d’ Affaires of the Egyptian Embassy Mr Ibrahim Sed and many Orthodox Christians.
His Beatitude’s visit to Ghana has drawn the interest of the local press, which published a lengthy interview with Patriarch Theodoros II, and the above named hierarchs and diplomats. During the interview, His Beatitude emphasized the great importance of the presence of the Orthodox Church in Africa, which is not for propaganda purposes, but is for the spiritual regeneration of all those who wish to accept the life-giving message of the Orthodox Church.
