EVE OF THE NATIVITY IN CAIRO
On the Eve of the Nativity , His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, being in Cairo according to Patriarchal custom, officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of St Panteleimon within the hospital of the Hellenic Community of Cairo, accompanied by His Eminence Nikodimos Metropolitan of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo and in the presence of the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Cairo, Mrs. L. Komini. Following the end of the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude received a group of youths from the Coptic Church, who after being kindly requested to do so by the Coptic Primate Theodoros II, sand festal hymns in honour of His Beatitude.
His Beatitude then went on to pay a visit of blessing and support the patients, doctors and nursing staff and at the adjacent Old Age Home of the Hellenic Community of Cairo, he sang festal carols with the old people there and gave them gifts. The itinerary of the Eve of the Nativity continued with a visit and an exchange of gifts with the boarders at the Arabic speaking Old Age Home in Heliopolis in Cairo.
At the Patriarchal Vicariate His Beatitude received the Scouts of Cairo who, headed by the District Commissioner Mr Alekos Kazamias, sang the traditional time-honoured carols. His Beatitude then went to the completely renovated Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St George Old Cairo, to see to the final details prior to its official inauguration.
