On January 11, 2023, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa attended the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria, after which he served a memorial prayer for the repose of the soul of the late blessed Patriarch Irenaios of Jerusalem
The Primate of the Second Throne of the Patriarchate is particularly moved by the passing of the venerable Patriarch, with whom he was associated since the years of their parallel ministry in Athens as Hierarchs-Exarchs of the two Senior Patriarchates of Alexandria and Jerusalem, respectively. He also fraternally expressed his condolences to the ancient Church of Jerusalem. It is noted that His Beatitude had visited the late Patriarch Irenaios of Jerusalem in Athens and had a long private meeting with him, at the holy institution where he was being cared for, with the care of His Beatitude Ieronymos, Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, to whom he expresses his just praise for his practically manifested loving feelings towards the late Primate.
