His Grace Polykarpos (Diamantopoulos), Bishop of Bunia, Kisangani and Eastern Congo was
born on 2nd February 1973 in Heliopolis, Thessalonica, where he completed his schooling.
He was admitted to the Aristotelian University of Thessalonica in the Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering of the Polytechnic School, from which he holds a BSC and a
MASTERS. He was tonsured a monk in 1995 in the Holy Skete of St Anna, into the company of
Elder Hieromonk Ioannis. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Orthodox Theology and Humanities
at the Euraka University of Switzerland and a Master's Degree in Orthodox Theology at the
"Neapolis" University of Paphos.
He has been ministering in the area of Mission since 2010, initially as Chancellor in the Holy
Metropolis of Madagascar until 2018, then in the Diocese of Toliara and South Madagascar. In
2018, he worked at the Missionary Echelon of the Holy Metropolis of Kinshasa, Congo, beside
the late Blessed Metropolitan of Nikiforos of Kinshasa. He has also ministered at the Holy
Monastery and Theological School of Halki, beside its then Abbot, now His Eminence elder
Metropolitan Apostolos of Derka. The monastic ideal and the Mission is the subject of his thesis.
Besides Greek, he speaks English, French, Malagasy and Ligala.
On 6th March 2022 he was appointed by His Beatitude as Patriarchal Vicar of the newly
established Holy Diocese of Bunia, Kisangani and Eastern Congo.
On 15th February 2024 he was elected by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of
Alexandria, by proposal of His Beatitude as Provincial Bishop of the Holy Diocese of Bunia,
Kisangani and Eastern Congo.
