His Grace NECTARIOS Bishop of Gulu – Northern Uganda – (born Nicholas Kabuye) was born in Nkokonjeru Mukono in Central Uganda. After completing his schooling in his homeland, he studied at the Rizarios Ecclesiastical School. He holds a degree from the Theological Department of the Theological Faculty of the Athens University, with a Postgraduate specialization in Canon Law. In addition, he studied Business Administration (City University of Seattle).
On 1st November 2013 His Beatitude the Primate of the nChurch of Greece, Archbishop Ieronymos II, tonsured hi a Monk, at the Chapel in the Archdiocese, giving him the name Nectarios. Through his order he was hosted at the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Pendeli. He was ordained Deacon by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos on the 9th February 2014 at the Church of St Dionysius the Areopagite that was then being used as the Cathedral and as Priest again by the Venerable Primate on 6th December 2015 at the celebrating Church of St Nicholas Acharnon. On 17th October 2021, being in Africa, he was granted the rank of Archimandrite by His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
On 12th January 2022, by proposal of His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros, he was elected by the venerable Hierarchy of the Second Throne Patriarchate of Alexandria as Bishop of Gulu-Northern Uganda,
