His Grace Timotheos Bishop of Goma and Great Kivu (TIMOTHEE NTUMBA MUSUNGAYI) was born into a priestly family in the city of Kananga Democratic Republic
of the Congo on 18.11.1972.
He graduated from the “Light of the Nations” Schools on the Missions in Kanaga, successively attended the Athoniada Ecclesiastical Academy of Mount Athos and the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. He holds a Master's Degree in Dogmatics from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, where he is continuing his Doctoral studies. He was tonsured a Monk by the late blessed Metropolitan Timotheos Kontomerkos of Central Africa on 08.09.1999 at the Holy Church of st Andrew in Kananga given the name Paisios in honour of the Venerable Paisios of Mt Athos.
During his university studies in Greece, with the approval of the Blessed Metropolitans Timotheos of Central Africa and Nikopolis and Meletios of Preveza, he stayed at the Holy Monastery of Prophet Elias of Preveza.
In 2007, he was ordained Deacon by the Metropolitan of Central Africa, later of Pentapolis the late Ignatios Mandelides.
He taught for 6 years at the Male Lyceum “Light of the Nations” in Kananga and later at the Theological School “St Athanasios the Athonite” of the Orthodox University in Kinshasa, where he also served as General Administrative Secretary. He carried out translations of missionary books, university textbooks, many written and spoken sermons from Greek into French and the local dialect of Tshilumba (National language of Kasai), as well as many revisions of Holy Services and liturgical books from Greek into French.
By Venerable Order of His Beatitude in 26.06.2011 he was ordained Priest in Alexandria by the Bishop of Mareotis, now Elder Metropolitan Gabriel of Leontopolis, Patriarchal Vicar General, in the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of st Savvas the Sanctified, receiving the rank of Archimandrite the following day from His Beatitude, at the same time being appointed as Missionary Project Manager in Eastern Congo where he worked as a Missionary for 11 consecutive years. On 06.06. 2022 he was appointed by His Beatitude as Patriarchal Commissioner of the new Diocese of Goma.
On 15.02.2024, following a proposal by His Beatitude he was unanimously elected by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria as the first Bishop of the newly-established Holy Diocese of Goma and Great Kivu (Eastern Congo).
His ordination as Bishop took place on 30/03/2024 in the Holy Church of St Nicholas in Kinshasa by His Beatitude Theodoros II Patriarch of Alexandria, and his enthronement on 28/07/2024 at the Cathedral of St Nektarios in Goma.
