On the Sunday of Pascha, 28th April 2019, the celebratory Vespers of the Resurrection was served in the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St Savvas in Alexandria.

His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, together with the holy clergy in procession, entered the Patriarchal Church of St Savvas where he officiated at the Vespers of Love.

Present were His Excellency the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Athanasios Kotsionis, representatives of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria, the Honorable Chairman of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce of Alexandria Mr. Byron Vafiades, the Honorable Chairman of the Association of Egyptian Greeks Mr. Constantinos Michaelides, representatives of Agencies and Societies of the Great City, many faithful and visitors.

With ecclesiastical majesty and according to the rites of our Church, the Holy Gospel was read in various languages, Greek by His Beatitude, German, Latin, English, French and Arabic, by the Holy Clergy.

Before the dismissal of the Resurrection Service, in the Throne Room of the Patriarchal Monastery of St Savvas, His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II, promoted to Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, him who until recently was Director of the Private Patriarchal Offcie, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Nikodemus Totkas.

The Very Reverend Chief Secretary, born and bred as a Greek in a foreign country, originated in Berlin, Germany, and before being called to Alexandria by His Beatitude, he served the Alexandrian for five years at the Holy Metropolis of Johannesburg and Pretoria in South Africa, as Parish Priest of the Hellenic Community of Klerksdorp, in the North West Province.

Immediately afterwards, His Beatitude awarded the Office of “Teacher of the Gospel” to the Protopresbyters of the Alexandrian Throne, Fr Spyridon Kladakis and Fr Petros Mazhar, for their contribution to Education. Fr Spyridon Kladakis served the Gree schools throughout Africa for many years, as well as at the Patriarchal Academy of St Savvas. Fr. Petros Mazhar, has a has authored remarkable intellectual work. Both are lecturers at the St. Athanasius Patriarchal Academy.
