Today, April 25, 2021, Palm Sunday was celebrated with all solemnity and dignity at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria.

His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa officiated during Orthros and served the Divine Liturgy, concelebrating with the Hierarchs of the Alexandrian Throne, His Eminence Narcissus Metropolitan of Naucratis and Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, His Grace Theodoros Bishop of Babylonos and His Grace Germanos Bishop of Tamiathus.

Honouring the service with their presence were the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Athanasios Kotsionis, the Chairlady of the Lyceum of Greek Ladies in Alexandria, as well as crowds of faithful Christians.

His Beatitude wished all the faithful in Egypt and all Orthodox Christians throughout the world, a blessed Holy Week, Resurrection and Pascha.

"My blessed children, these days you will hear from many people theological words, with philosophical meanings around the great event of the Resurrection of our Lord. But at this moment, I want to speak to you from the surplus of my heart and I say to you: Celebrate a real and genuine Pascha this year as well! Let neither the pandemic, nor the evil of the world, nor the individualism that tends to alter our humanity hinder us".

"We persist and strive to celebrate Pascha, as a passage from despair to hope, from difficulty to freedom and light, next to the blessed people of the Lord."

In conclusion, the Alexandrian Primate expressed his expressed his support for Egypt for the problem it faces on the issue of the Nile River, stressing that: "The waters of the Nile are a sacred river that quenches the thirst of all countries and no country has the right to deprive another country of its water".

Following the end of the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy, in the courtyard of the Monastery, the festival market held annually on the same day by the Lyceum of Greek Ladies of Alexandria took place, for the assistance of suffering residents.

The Patriarchate of Alexandria thanked the Lyceum of Greek Ladies for their continuous support of and presence in St Savvas in Alexandria.
