Friday 19th June 2009, was the first day of the visit by His Beatitude Ieronymos Archbishop of Athens and All Greece to the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria.
His Beatitude Ieronymos and Their Eminences Nikodimos of Ierissos and Ignatios of Arta were warmly welcomed by His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa in his private office, where he expresses his great joy for this visit.
His Beatitude addressed the Archbishop referred to the renovation of the Patriarchal palace, stressing “Your Beatitude, I am continuing the work of the late Patriarch Petros of Alexandria”. He then immediately took the Archbishop and his entourage on a conducted tour of the Patriarchate as well as the Patriarchal Library. The Archbishop expressed his admiration and his enthusiasm for the ignificant renovation works taking place at the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
Also, the Primate of the Church of Greece and his entourage visited the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria , where, on Sunday 21st June 2009, there will be a Patriarchal Divine Liturgy.
On the afternoon of the same day the two Primates departed by road for Cairo , where they were to be met by the members of the Hellenic Community of Cairo.
