On 18th march 2010, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, together with His Grace Nicodemos, Bishop of Nitria and Patriarchal Vicar in Cairo, paid a courtesy visit on Her Excellency the Ambassador of the USA in Egypt, Mrs. Margaret Scobey, at the Ambassadorial Residence in Cairo.
During the visit His Beatitude informed the Ambassador about the historic journey of the ancient Patriarchate, the missionary work undertaken on the African continent, especially mentioning Kenya which is the country of descent of President Barak Obama, as well as the work of renovation of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St George in Old Cairo.
He also told the Ambassador of the support and protection afforded the patriarchate and its work by His Excellency President Hosni Mubarak.
Mrs Scobey expressed her admiration for the multifaceted work of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, as well as for its historic places, especially for the centuries old Monastery of St George.
His Beatitude extended an invitation to Mrs Scobey to visit the Patriarchal See in Alexandria and then commemorative gifts were exchanged.
His Beatitude then went on to pay a courtesy visit to His Excellency the Governor of Cairo, with whom he held lengthy discussions regarding many issues.
