On 22nd October 2012, His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Eminence Nikiphoros Metropolitan of Central Africa and the Very Reverend Archimandrite Narkissos Gammo, Prinscipal of the Patriarchal Academy of Alexandria, arrived at tge international airport in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
His Beatitude was welcomed by Their Excellencies the Ambassadros of Greece in Mr. Alexander Katranis and of Egypt Mr. Achraf Ibrahim, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Kinshasa Mr Gerasimos Dounis, clergy, state officials and many faithful Christians.
On the morning of 23rd October His Beatitude laid the foundations of the Holy Church of the Archangels, in the area close to the International airport. Later, he went to the Ambassadorial residence of Egypt, where he met with His Excellency Ambassador Achraf Ibrahim, whom he thanked for the invitation and stressed the excellent relations between the ancient Patriarchate and the Egyptian State.
In conclusion, the Orthodox Youth of Kinshasa enthusiastically welcomed His Beatitude during the festive function which they organized in his honour in the grounds of the Holy Church of ST Mark, with traditional dances and songs.
