On 23rd March 2014, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, conducted the festive Divine Liturgy and the ceremony of the Veneration of the Cross, in the beautiful Cathedral of St Nicholas in Hamzawi, Cairo, together with His Eminence Nikodimos Metropolitan of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, His Grace Niphon Bishop of Babylonia, Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of St George Old Cairo, the Exarch of the Patriarchate of Moscow in Cairo, Protopresbyter Victor and the Holy Clergy.
Present also were the Cypriot Ambassador Mr. Sotos Lissides, the Consul General of Greece in Cairo Mr Ioannis Hatzantonakis, the Cypriot Consul Mr. Fotis Fotiou, the Educational Coordinator Mr. Pavlos Kapides, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Cairo Mr. Christos Kavalis, the representative of the Arabic-speaking community Mr. Houri and other chairmen and representatives of socities and associations.
Prior to the ceremony of the Veneration of the Cross, the Alexandrian Primate consecrated to the rank of Great Ecclesiarch the Very Reverend Archimandrite Theodoros Dridakis, to succeed Archimandrite Isisdoros Salakos of blessed memory, and spoke appropriately, wishing him a tireless and productive ministry from the very responsible position of Great Ecclesiarch.
