On 18th August 2015, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, received in the Patriarchal See, in the presence of His Grace Meletios Bishop of Naucratis, the departing Honourable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Mr. Chrisots Kapodistrias, on the completion of his tenure in the Great City and the undertaking of his duties in Cyprus.      

In the Throne Room, His Beatitude spoke with warm words about the excellent collaboration he had with the Honourable Consul, praised his productive consular tenure and particularly his ethos and kindness, and expressed the wish that his love for Alexandria should never cease.

He then went on to award the departing Consul General Mr. Kapodistrias with the medal of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Lion of Alexandria, in the presence of His Excellency the Governor of Alexandria Mr. Hani Elmessiry, and the Honourable Consuls General in Alexandria of France Mrs. Dominiquw Waag, the United States of America Mr. Stephen Fakan, the United Kingdom Mrs. Caroline Alcock, Spain Mr. Jorge De Lucas Cadenas, Lebanon Mr. Oussama Khachab, China Mr. Xiu Nanshan, Sudan Mr. Ayman Zakaria, Palestinian Authority Mr. Mahmoud El Assadi and Russia Mr. Rashid Sadikov.

The honoured Consul General then thanked His Beatitude the Patriarch for the honour and His Excellency the Governor and the Consul General of France both spoke on behalf of all the diplomats present.

Also present at the farewell function were the representative of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria Mr. Dimitrios Kavouras, the representative of the Cypriot Brotherhood Mr. George Eleftheriou, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Mr. Byron Vafiades, the Chairlady of the Lyceum of Greek Women Mrs. Aliki Antoniou and other dignitaries of the Community, who praised the Honourable Mr. Kapodistrias.

A reception was then held outdoors in the Patriarchal Mansion and the diplomats present had the opportunity of taking a guided tour of the Archaeological Museum and the Patriarchal Sacristy.
