In Alexandria on the first day of the new year 2025, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated and Doxology was sung in the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated simply by His Eminence Panteleimon Metropolitan of Ptolemais, Hierarchical Head of the beautiful Church, officiating under His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II, who was flanked by Their Eminences Metropolitans Narcissus f Pelusium andGermanos of Tamiathus.
The Doxology φορ the beginning of the new year followed, attended by the Consul General of Greece Mr. Ioannis Pyrgakis, the President of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria Mr. Andreas Vafiadis, the President of HNAA and the Association of Greek Scientists Ms. Lilika Thlivitou and members of the community. In his speech, His Beatitude wished everyone love, peace and health, while officially announcing that the new year 2025 is declared as a year dedicated to the memory of Athanasius the Great, Archbishop of Alexandria, the Great Theologian of the First Ecumenical Council.
This was followed by the cutting of the Vasilopita (New Year’s Cake) of the Cathedral. The Patriarch wished everyone and congratulated His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon for the Abrahamic hospitality.
Finally, His Beatitude, accompanied by His Eminence Narcissus of Pelusium, went to the “MANNA” Old Age Home of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria, where he visited the residents and had dinner with them. He was accompanied by the Consul General of Alexandria as well as the President of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria, Mr. Andreas Vafiadis.
